We aren’t trying to create a state museum or the Smithsonian. Although these institutions
are wonderful and educational, and very well put together, they aren’t personal
for the people of their area. This Museum is about Transylvania County. It is about
people who have lived here in different times and the events that shaped their lives.
Spectators are welcome, but we invite our visitors to sit a spell, browse through
old scrapbooks, and reminisce about days gone by. We also encourage them to look
at the world today with an eye toward the future. Today’s events are tomorrow’s
history. Be vigilant in its preservation!
Our museum is a well-written story about the people and past of Transylvania County—with
illustrations in exhibits and artifacts—so thrilling that readers find they can’t
put it down. Our museum is as authentic and original as the people it represents.
It doesn’t fit into a generic box, and it defies standardized containment. When
people say, “It has never been done that way.” We know that we are on the right
track. This is the first Heritage Museum in Transylvania County--It has never been
done before—and it is uniquely ours.
