The Jim Bob Tinsley Museum, a non-profit organization, was opened in May 1994.
The museum provides free public access to the lifelong collections of Jim Bob and
Dottie Tinsley. Artifacts, paintings, drawings, sculptures, engravings, and
research materials associated with the ten books Jim Bob Tinsley has had published
are available for the viewing pleasure of guests.
The museum is managed by a Board of
Directors and is supervised by an Executive Director. A corp of docents and
volunteers provide for the day-to-day operation of the museum.
Local and regional collectors,
craftsmen, artists and artisans frequently make their collections and works
available for public viewing as temporary exhibits.
The museum has recently established
the Transylvania County Heritage Center, as part of the Tinsley Museum, which
will prepare temporary and permanent displays of heirlooms, artifacts,
genealogical exhibits, vintage family photographs, and other exhibits reflective
of the history and heritage of the county.
